Sometimes a little getaway is just what's needed to turn around the fortunes of a team.

St. Ignatius Prep was sputtering after losing three straight games — two of them when the Wildcats were shut out – when they hit the road Sunday for the Boras Baseball Classic in Sacramento.

A 3-0 victory over San Marin in the morning was followed by a 7-2 victory over Benicia and just like that, St. Ignatius Prep is back to its winning ways and on the winners' side of a bracket that is loaded with some of the state's best ballclubs.

The Wildcats (10-5-2) will face the winner of Tuesday's Mitty-Granite Bay game at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

After dispatching of San Marin, St. Ignatius fell behind Benicia 2-0, before regrouping with a four-run third inning.

Jack Callen led off the inning with a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error. An Archer Horn double scored Callen to make it 2-1. Emmett Johnson then delivered an infield single to put runners on first and third. A D.J. Delaney double play grounder tied the score, but the Wildcats were just getting started.

Chase Gordon walked, Bo Shaffer singled and Ryan Rosenthal got to first base on a fielding error that loaded the bases. Atticus Gibson then doubled in two runs to give St. Ignatius Prep a 4-2 lead.

Delaney led off the fifth with a single. After Gordon flied out, Delaney stole second and scored on a Shaffer single. Rosenthal walked to put runners on first and second. Rosenthal stole third and scored on Gibson's sacrifice fly.

The seventh run crossed on a Tycco Giametti single.

Giametti pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and two runs.
