Coach: Matt Wilson

2024 record: 20-10 (CCS Division V championship)

There’s quiet confidence at Capuchino as the Mustangs, coming off a CCS championship season, can see a path toward duplicating that feat in 2025.

“They are motivated and determined to repeat as CCS champions,” said coach Matt Wilson.

Cap returns six lettermen and will be bolstered by a strong group of underclassmen that will give the Mustangs “a chance to compete in every game,” Wilson said.

Is that enough to spell a repeat? Senior catcher Lucas Zayac thinks so.

“We lost a couple of guys, but the guys that are stepping in for them are studs,” Zayac said. “I know that everybody wants it, too, and will do what ever they can for us to get back (to the CCS championship game) and repeat.”

Zayac, who plays both catcher and shortstop, is the top returning starter. He hit .355 with 33 hits, 16 runs scored and 12 RBI. Anakin Manuel hit .276 with 16 RBI last year, while Declan Mendel, Yulio Ceron, Cameron Chin and Travis Ciardella will take on expanded roles in 2025.

Newcomers expected to make contributions include Bobby Gomez, Dominic Fanara, Andreas Gomez, Will Hafer, Billy Ferreira and Jordan Estella.

Mendel posted a 5-2 record last year with a 1.92 earned-run average and 45 strikeouts in 47 innings.
