Coach: Brian Anderson

2024 Record: 7-19

Brian Anderson might not have enough pitching to compete for a Peninsula Athletic league crown, but he could have the league’s best player in sophomore shortstop Riley Jackson.

Jackson made the jump to varsity baseball as a freshman and showed himself capable by hitting .321 with a home run and 16 RBIs. Anderson expects his shortstop to build on those numbers this year.

“As a sophomore, he has a chance to be the best player in our league,” Anderson said. “His power numbers may not be as high as others, but that is due to the size of our field. He will play at the next level.”

That’s still years from now. And in the meantime, the Cougars might have enough arms with Connor Heath, Kai Kung, Andreas Hipkins and Maverick Johnson to win some games.

“They can keep us competitive in games,” Anderson said.

Infielder Ian Lemen (.304 with 14 RBI), outfielder Jason Couto (.240) and third baseman Clark Colucci (.228) will be counted on for more offense this year.

“We're definitely going to be better,” Jackson said. “I think we might have five or six starting seniors this year. We also had three freshmen on the team, including myself. We’re developing nicely so I think we’ll be much better.”
