SAN MATEO – Hillsdale broke open a 2-1 game on Monday with a whacky four-run fourth inning to beat San Mateo, 7-4 on Monday.
Jonathan Chong led off the frame with a single through the hole on the right side. The ball was booted in right, and he moved to second. Parker Jessup then hit one hard to the left side that was booted for another error, putting runners on first and third.
Bennett Young then bunted up the first base line and was safe when pitcher Tyce Copus and first baseman Julian Bleess collided, causing Bless to leave the game and a run to score.
Jake Belloni then scored another with a bad-hop double over first base to make it 5-1. Following two walk and a strike out, Jacob Bonner singled over the short stop to make it 6-1.
Hugo Guzman worked into the fourth inning before leaving the game. He was replaced by Tommy Schultz, who overcame some early wildness to close down the Bearcats (3-2).
Belloni finished with two doubles, while Bonner and Young had two hits each. Bonner, who had a two-run single in the third, drove in three runs.
