In the midst of the COVID 19 shutdown, the Kinetic Performance Institute opened its doors, which some might have called a curse. Erik Wagle saw it as a good thing.

“Parents were looking for things for their kids to do,” said Wagle, who founded the Morgan Hill training center in collaboration with Dan Cabuling in early 2020. “Everything else was shut down, but we had the space.”

With more than 20,000 square feet of space – most of it outside – social distancing was never a problem and anyone looking to improve on their baseball or softball skillset was exposed to a state-of-the-art facility that utilized all the high-tech data being used worldwide today.

KPI grabbed the market share from the Peninsula to the South Bay and has run with it. Today, the training facility has a membership of about 170 baseball players and about 60 softball players who come from as far north as San Francisco, up and down the Peninsula and all over the East Bay.

KPI has eight full-time employees and as many as 25 workers during the summer and fall seasons.

KPI, located at 16670 Church Street in Morgan Hill, got its start when Wagle was in the travel baseball business, making ends meet with Dub Baseball, which also featured an indoor training facility. Meanwhile, Cabuling was running a training center in the same building when they compared notes and realized that they could create something special if they combined their businesses.

The facility provides individualized training programs for its members with the goal being to “provide comprehensive training and development to build a complete athlete and respectable human being.”

“Our development programs for players are the backbone of our organization and why we are considered the premier performance training center in Northern California,” Wagle said.
