The King's Academy dug deep into their bullpen Saturday night. Deeper than most nights. Six pitchers deep.
And it wasn't enough.
The Knights led most of the night but couldn't hold off Santa Clara in the end. The Bruins rallied a 6-5 deficit to score three runs in the top of the seventh to beat The King's Academy, 8-6 and capture the Ted Tamone tournament crown in a game held at MacDonald High in Santa Clara.
The Knights (2-1) jumped to a 4-0 lead and were in front most of the night, but they could never shake the Bruins, who rallied from a 5-2 deficit to tie the game heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Toby Trotter's bases-loaded single put the Warriors ahead 6-5 going into the seventh, but the Bruins (3-0) strung together three straight hits to take control of the game.
Trotter finished with two hits and a pair of RBI, while Ethan Johnson had two hits including a double and his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the third inning.

Wilcox 2, Sequoia 1
The Ravens lost in heartbreaking fashion when two walks, a bunt and the ball getting thrown away at first base – the costliest of four Sequoia errors – allowed the go-ahead run to score.
The loss washed away a strong performance from Garrett Johnson, who had a double at the plate and pitched the first four innings and allowed just an unearned run.
Mays Pagnotti was tagged with loss despite pitching two strong innings.
Sequoia (1-2) will travel to Woodside on Friday.
