Unofficially, Woodside moved to .500 on Monday. Officially, the Wildcats are three outs short of that happening.
Rain suspended Monday's game in the bottom of the fourth with the Wildcats leading American High of Fremont, 7-0. When the game is resumed – the resumption has not yet been scheduled – the final three innings will be played.
Those four innings were the only baseball played on the Peninsula on Monday. Rain washed out Hillsdale's game at Gunn, while Westmont at No. 12 Sequoia was also rained out.
Woodside might be the best 2-3 team on the Peninsula. Coming off a 16-6 victory over previously unbeaten Santa Clara on Saturday, Danny Rogers' squad is hitting its stride just in time for the start of the PAL Ocean Division season.
"A new squad takes a little adjustment," said senior Trent Amoroso. "But we are coming together for sure."
On Monday, the Wildcats did everything right by pounding out seven runs on seven hits and riding Amoroso's right arm. He allowed just one hit, while striking out six in what was his best outing of the year.
"Thank God, I'm finding it," he said. "... I wouldn't say I was comfortable, but the fastball and changeup were working well. I couldn't find my slider, but we made it work."
The wet weather made it difficult as four walks might indicate.
"I wouldn't say the rain was the problem, but it was challenging for sure," he said.
Offensively, Woodside picked up where it left off Saturday, when it pounded out a season-high 18 hits. Jeremiah Arias Torres had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, while Cruz Torres, Anderson Comfort and Amaroso all chipped in with doubles.
