Terra Nova spotted Aragon a two-run lead in the first and then came from behind in the middle innings to take a 6-3 PAL Ocean Division decision from the Dons in San Mateo Monday.
The victory put the Tigers (14-5-1) a half-game behind idle Menlo School in the Ocean Division standings. Menlo starts a series with Half Moon Bay on Tuesday, while Terra Nova and Aragon will complete their series on Tuesday – again at Aragon.
Terra Nova took charge of the game with a four-run third inning. With one out, Joey Donati and Brody Finale reached back on infield errors. JT Snead followed with an RBI double to tie the game at 3.
Evan Wilson brought home Finale with a soft grounder up the middle to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead. Aiden James followed with an RBI double and, after a Jesse Martinez single, Isaac Roman delivered an RBI single to right field to give Terra Nova a 6-3 lead.
That was plenty of support for James, who struggled with his control (four walks), but allowed only three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.
Aragon (7-13) came out looking intent on pulling off an upset. Adi Shanker doubled, and after a Kyle Crawford sacrifice bunt, scored on a Keith Matye double. Matye would score on a Charlie Henderson single to give the Dons a 2-0 lead.
