Top-ranked Valley Christian used its pitching depth to open the season with a 2-0 victory over Elk Grove in a game played under the lights at Santa Clara University.
Quinten Marsh threw five innings of one-hit ball to pick up the victory. He walked three but was able to mitigate any damage by posting five strikeouts.
"My stuff felt good," Marsh said. "It was a good start to the season."
Junior Brock Ketelsen, who, like Marsh, is another Stanford commit, struck out five over the final two innings to pick up the save. He allowed two hits and walked a batter.
Offensively, the Warriors could muster just one hit, but they made the most of Hunter Fujimoto's base hit. The outfielder added three stolen bases and scored a run.

Los Altos 3, Saint Francis 2, 8 innings
The Eagles pushed across the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and hung on to spoil a strong season debut from Lancers pitcher Nick Chow.
Saint Francis, which won in walk-off fashion on Tuesday, found itself in another nailbiter.
Chow worked six scoreless innings and struck out 13 but came away without a decision when Los Altos scored twice in the seventh to force extra innings. In the eighth, the Eagles scored on a walk and double by Emmett Heath.
Matteo Pignati had his second straight two-hit game for Saint Francis.
